ISSUES & BENEFITS

The Issues and Benefits of biofuels and their impacts.

  • Biofuels are environmentally friendly towards our Earth. The damage that we have donetention of biofuels was to begin the process of removing.
  • They are very inexpensive and easy to afford. They are the most affordable gas in the world and are cheaper than regular fossil fuels.
  • They are made to replace fossil fuels and are  a renewable source of fuel for a variety of things.
  • It can help reduce the amount of money used to make fuel and that money can go on to more important uses than just fuel.
  • They can help the economy save money by not making oil be its main priority; and have fuel easy to come by for developing countries such as India and Mexico.
  • Biofuels are carbon neutral, meaning that they have a carbon footprint of net zero by replacing the amount of carbon dioxide that they emit with things that make up for it.

Issues

  • Biofuels are mostly made from edible crop and plants. The amount of land needed may not suffice if it becomes a main source of fuel. Farmers, in order to get more money,  may use land meant for food for biofuel ingredients; this can cause the main dilemma of biofuels which is inflation, when prices of somethings increase due to the demand or value of the product (Dictionary.com). However, some may say that Second Generation and Third Generation can be the solution.
  • The production of biofuels can emit a harmful toxin, nitrous oxide, which can be able to cause the greenhouse effect, something we want to stop.
  • The transition from gasoline to biofuels can take much energy and time which can cause many people to have to abandon their gasoline-vehicles for new, more expensive ones.
  • Some researchers believe that the production of biofuels uses much more energy than the end product replaces. They believe they are doing too much when the outcome doesn't redeem them in terms of energy.
  • The production of biofuels may cause the habitat and biodiversity rates of different animals and organisms to be threatened due to the use of crops and plants. (green world investor).
